Grunge fans take note. Taking place Friday 12th March at Champions, Bournemouth is the very first ‘C/O’ night. That C/O stands for Covers/Originals. This week you can see Brothers Grimmer, Muddy Miles and Nion Abeo performing not just their own material but your favourite 90’s Seattle scene tracks too. The event launches the debut album from headliners Brothers Grimmer and also raises awareness for the The National Autistic Society. All proceeds of the night will go to this worthy cause. I enter the O2 Academy Bournemouth to find an already bustling room. With The Noisettes becoming familiar at the high end of the UK charts, it’s not surprising. The first support act of the night Tinashe had already finished their set and I was looking forward to seeing Tiffany Page – the real reason I’m here tonight.

Getting hold of music from local bands is now that much easier with our Download Page. Kicking things off we have two Demo EPs – Rapids! and The Neon Tigers. Both bands had a Dorset Rock Online Track of The Week and those songs; The Elitist and Out Of Control, feature amongst those available. Over the coming weeks the page will get a bit of a polish and some additions so keep your eyes peeled or join our Facebook page to get notifications.
Navigate to the Downloads Page using the tabs across the top of the site or hitting this link here.

It seems that my bad timekeeping was both a blessing and a curse on this night. On one hand it meant that I missed both of the support bands. It was a shame because I had heard good things about both LostAlone and Street Drum Corps and I always like to check out the support. However, when I walked into the hall where 30 Seconds To Mars (3OSTM) were due to play, it was already packed. There was an atmosphere in the room that I’ve not felt at a Bournemouth gig (let alone the BIC) in a long time. I was actually excited at this point!
Opening behind a curtain with the first track Escape from their new album This Is War the first couple of things that struck me were how good a drummer Shannon Leto is. The man can certainly hold a beat. The stage show that was set up for the band was outstanding, they had a superb lighting show. The screens behind them were later used to play promo videos and other animations throughout the rest of their set. Very impressive! Continue Reading »

Most bands have a song that put them in the public eye and they hate having to play it all the time. Lemmy from Motorhead hates the Ace Of Spades and Slash isn’t too keen on Sweet Child O Mine. Marillion refuse even to play Kayleigh (or any Fish era tunes) but these bands are an exception, as most know that it’s the fans that buy the records and it’s the fans that want to hear THAT song. I can’t imagine AC/DC not playing Whole Lotta Rosie or Metallica not playing Enter Sandman and so I would expect that a lot of folks went to the O2 to see Europe and to hear the song that catapulted them to stardom - The Final Countdown. The Elitist is an atmospheric, multi-layered, indie-rock triumph.
Rapids! are another band stepping beyond the call of duty and creating something of a standard so high that they deserve a title better than ‘local band’. The
Bloc Party and
Foals references are easy to make but the darker undertone of Steve DaCosta’s heavy guitar sound and James Davies’ lightning punk rock drumming are just two of the things that take the band beyond these comparisons and into something of their own entirely.
I asked singer Matt Holliday about the track. Continue Reading »
