It’s that time of year again, the festival season is almost over and you’re all packing your tents and sleeping bags away ready for next year. You either have memories of mud slides or of sunburn, but you know you’ve had a good time. So what’s next? What do you do to keep the musical fire that burns in all of us alight? Well you go to a fair of course! It just so happens that from 10th-12th September Boscombe Community Fair is back in town with a packed line up to suit and to stoke everyone’s musical fire.

Well after a crazy bank holiday weekend, the volume Dorset gigs seem to have calmed down a bit. Needless to say there are still some excellent gigs coming up this week!

Acclaimed Welsh trio Manic Street Preachers will be heading to Bournemouth to play at O2 Academy as part of their most extensive UK tour ever. The tour coincides with the release of the band’s new album Postcards From A Young Man in September. After 2009’s cathartic Journal For Plague Lovers which featured lyrics left behind by guitarist Richey Edwards (who mysteriously disappeared in 1995), their tenth album is said to be a return to the classic rock roots of Send Away The Tigers and the arena sized choruses of Everything Must Go.

New Model Army arrive for their first visit to Mr Kyps in Poole this Friday night (20th August 2010). The gig has been slotted as an intimate warm-up show just before the band’s appearance at The Levellers ‘Beautiful Days’ Festival at Escot Park in Devon. New Model Army celebrate their 30th Anniversary this year, which is some major achievement as they have played on many worldwide tours and produced eleven top quality studio albums during that time. Earlier this year they finished a ninety date tour of Europe and America in support of their album Today is a Good Day which critics rated as some of their best work since the infamous Thunder and Consolation.
