The Longest Day – A State of Indifference

TLDStateHeader

When reviewing music, making comparisons is a natural part of the process. The troubling thing when reviewing A State of Indifference – the debut album from Bournemouth based rock band The Longest Day – is whether to draw comparisons to other unsigned local artists, or major label acts such as Silverchair30 Seconds to Mars and Muse.

Meat Puppets – “Meat Puppets” (1982)

MeatPuppetsReview

The following review was submitted by Matt Upchuck.

Mention the Meat Puppets to most people and you will almost get a blank look from them, the best you can hope for is “didn’t they support Nirvana on the MTV Unplugged Session?” and yes they did; but to remember them for simply having Kurt Cobain singing along with them would do them a severe injustice. Especially for a fan of noisy and discordant punk rock like me.

Foo Fighters – The Colour And The Shape

Foo Fighters Color And The Shape Retro Review

Soundgarden – Superunknown

Superunknown

Superunknown was released in March 1994 in the height of the ‘Grunge‘ era of rock music. Soundgarden were one of the 4 pillars of the Seattle rock scene alongside Nirvana, Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam, which brought their brand of punk/rock/metal to the mainstream. They quickly became one of the most important rock bands of the 90’s and looking back, surely one of the most influential.

Retro Review: AC/DC – Back In Black

AC/DC’s Back In Black is the second biggest selling album in the world, coming in just behind Michael Jacksons Thriller. So that makes it the biggest selling ROCK album ever and it’s still selling now. Thirty years later and sounds just as good.

Retro Review: Metallica – The Black Album

How the hell do you review an album that has sold so many records, that has been listened to so many times and been drummed into you until you could probably sing it all (Vocals, Guitar/bass lines and drums) in your sleep totally objectively? You’re never going to get it right, but here I go anyway!
