News & Updates 22.08.10

News22.08.10

To cope with Dorset Rock Online’s rapid growth and our plans for the website, we’re making a few changes. Not only has a team re-organisation already started, but we’ve been thinking about site content. I thought I’d start with what I hope to be a regular feature. We hear all sorts of news snippets, and quite often they don’t warrant a full article write up. This is where our ‘News & Updates’ postings come in…

Thank You

BdayBashThanks

Wow, that was quite a night… and what an atmosphere! I hope everyone had a good time at our 1st Birthday Bash at Champions! I know we did. A big thank you to The Longest Day, The Neon Tigers, Rapids!, Nion Abeo, The Otherhalf and Western Sand for putting on an awesome show. I think you’ll agree with me that the entertainment was top notch. If you hadn’t already seen some of the bands that performed, I hope they lived up to the expectations we may have built up with our praise over the last year. I hope we’ll have some photos and video from the night soon!

Other than the bands that I’ve already mentioned, I would like to thank everyone involved in making the event what it was. Further thanks goes to:

Sontronics

Sontronics

You may think it’s a little random that we’re running a press release for a microphone company. Under normal circumstances you’d be right, but let me tell you a little bit about Sontronics - surely any local brand boasting a client list including Nuno Bettencourt, Josh Homme and The Pope is worth reading about!?

John Butler Trio Cancelled

JohnButlerTrioCancelled

Yep, that’s right – the October John Butler Trio gig at the O2 Academy Bournemouth has been cancelled. :( The O2 haven’t received any reason or press info from the promoter as to why, and more importantly, if it will be rescheduled. Dan Roberts found a reference online to it being down to ‘logistics’ and that’s about it. If you already have tickets, I’d get in touch with the seller.

Myself and Dan were especially looking forward to this one – Dan even wrote a preview article for the gig. Let’s not put the man’s hard work to waste. Here’s a bit about the band and a couple of music videos.

Bloodstock: Metal 2 The Masses Finals – The Result

Bloodstock Bournemouth

We’ve been covering the ‘Bloodstock: Metal 2 The Masses Bournemouth‘ competition since the beginning. Can you believe it’s been over three months now!? If you’ve been following it you’ll already know that the competition has seen some truly fierce heats from some of the area’s most brutal bands. The final showdown came to this; five acts – CHAOSBOMB, Flayed Disciple, Headstone Down, Karrion and Ruins of Earth –  the best of the best. To get as far as the semi finals is an achievement in itself, but of course only one band can take that coveted spot on the Bloodstock Open Air Festival stage this year.
