New Model Army + New York Alcoholic Anxiety Attack @ Mr Kyps, Poole 20th August 2010.
In 1989 when Mr Kyps was still just an old snooker hall, New Model Army in their stripped down form of Red Sky Coven arrived in Poole to play in a pub a hundred metres away from Mr Kyps called the Bricklayers Arms. This was a very special event in the September just after New Model Army had played their triumphant set at the Reading Festival.
Fast forward 21 years and Mr Kyps promoter (and huge NMA fan) Bert Bernell has been working on bringing the band to Poole for a long time. Tonight is the night and Bert seems very excited for them to finally be here. This is an intimate show with the venue packed to the rafters, it is going to be a good night and all the ingredients are in place.

After unbelievably booking an intimate show at the relatively small venue of Chords in Poole, Madina Lake’s performance here had been in doubt due to the much publicized hospitalization of bass player Matthew Leone. The band decided to continue with the planned shows, including a set at the Sonisphere Festival at Knebworth, with Matthew’s bass parts being recorded before hand and run when the band plays live rather than replacing him with a stand-in.

“We’re continuing with our exclusive coverage and results in the ongoing Bloodstock: Metal 2 The Masses heats in Bournemouth. The heaviest local talent are competing for their chance to play at the legendary open air Metal festival this year. Local promoter Bear is running and co-judging the Bournemouth leg of the nationwide competition. You can get more info on the competition itself here. Dorset Rock Online is the only place to get the results and each week Bear and Dan Harpham will bring us the scores and a review. Now over to co-judge Bear…” – Ed.

I’m sure I’m not the only girl who admired Debbie Harry when they were younger. I wanted to be like her, Joan Jett, Chrissie Hynde, Princess Leia, or Wonder Woman. I would have loved to experience Blondie back in the day but unfortunately never got to as a result of my young age.
Therefore I was looking forward to seeing the New York new wave pioneers especially when I had heard they weren’t going to be touring much as a result of Debbie Harry’s battle with tinnitus. Not only have they embarked on a tour but there is also a new album, Panic of Girls, on its way.

‘Chinners and Dan O’Gara head to Chords to see what was possibly “one of Dorset’s gigs of the year”. Bands include The Longest Day, Envy of The State, Fei Comodo and headliners Inme. The night also features a very special solo acoustic performance from Inme’s Dave McPherson. A big thanks goes to Reggie at Vortex Live Promotions for his hospitality and the bands for giving their time to chat to us.’ – Ed
