Deltorers: EP Review

Echoes of the early 90’s Seattle grunge scene are still resounding here in Bournemouth – with feedback ‘n’ all. The self titled EP from Deltorers sounds like an In Utero era Nirvana in a pit fight with Sonic Youth and Dick Dale. This record will not please your chart loving friends.
Nathan Evans’ slurring, almost taunting vocals guides us through four of the five distorted, atmospheric, riff driven tracks. All aspects of this indie release are of a high quality – from the musicianship of all involved to the production and sleeve presentation.
I do find myself wishing the band had included some of the insta-catchy tracks that I’ve heard performed live such as Chemical Man but the EP is still a real grower. The more I listen to it the more I love it. What I hear on ‘Deltorers’ is something that sounds more sophisticated; it seems that the indie/grunge three piece has evolved their material somewhat since I last heard them.
The standout track for me is the awesome Devil’s Play, despite it being slightly marred by a prolonged false-finish-silence. I feel that that this track would have worked far better as the finale. Instead, it makes the fifth and final track ‘Instra’ seem tacked on. An injustice when this instrumental highlight sounds like it could be found on one of the better Josh Homme led Desert Sessions releases. As you can guess, I’m getting picky because in all honesty, this is a great record and one the band should be proud of.
Right now Deltorers are nowhere near as big as they should be, even in the local area. Hopefully with a solid EP under their belt and Honey Be Records behind them, the band will now realize their full potential and rise to it.

Just gave the EP a listen…impressive!
They’ve come a long way since I saw them supporting Mr.Fungus at The Gander in 2008.
Good stuff!
Ya know…The Deltorers were always one of those bands I never got around to listening to,not really my sorta thing but can see it growing on me a bit!
