I Love It When A Plan Comes Together

Dorset Rock Online sent a shout out via Twitter (FYI the feed also appears on the right hand side of DorsetRockOnline.com) for local bands to let us know what they got up to in 2009 and what’s in store for 2010. What we got was a cross section of great bands, both seasoned and new, Rock, Metal and Indie. So read on to catch up with The Neon Tigers, Rapids!, The Longest Day, Maniacal Edge, The Subatomics and Voodoo Vegas…
“In Dec ‘09 we played our first show at The Winchester in Bournemouth which was great, we loved playing and the audience seemed to enjoy themselves too which is always a bonus! It’s always a gamble playing your first show because you are never quite sure how people are going to react, especially as the music we play in this band is different to anything any of us have done in previous bands.
As for 2010 we are hoping to play as much as possible both locally and further afield, we are hoping to get a coach load of Tiger fans up to London and cause some trouble there! All four of us Tigers are feeling very positive about this year and cant wait to bring our brand of theatrical rockage to the masses!”
“Following Rapids! first venture into the studio, 2009 finished on a high supporting Art Rocker faves The Chapman Family, and opening for the Victorian English Gentleman’s Club at Southampton Joiners. We then brought the year to a close playing a headlining show to a packed audience at Bournemouth’s iBar. The set ended in a wall of feedback that continued after all the equipment was switched off, and even the soundman couldn’t stop it. So 2009 went out with a bang (or a wail) quite literally!
2010 promises to be a big year with an ever growing schedule. Dates are already planned for venues in London, Winchester and Bournemouth with many more to be confirmed. Furthermore, our debut EP will be availabe as a limited run at shows soon, and new songs are being penned with more time in the studio planned for Spring.”
“2009 was a fair old roller coaster of a ride and in the process we played some of the best gigs we’ve ever played, met some great new friends and partied with older ones. We feel ready to go full steam ahead this year and really break into the industry and let the world know who we are!
Plans are big for this year and we need all the help we can from our lovely loyal fans all over the UK. Preparations for our March and October tours are in underway, Portsmouth Guildhall awaits us for our “Live and Unsigned” audition, festival slots in the summer and generally trying to gig the hell out of this year is what we’ve got our sights firmly set on! We’ll be returning to some of our favourite venues in the coming months, The Joiners (15th Jan, 4th Mar), Borderline, London (20th Feb) and also our first appearance at the famous Purple Turtle, Camden (27th Mar)! And last but by no means least we’re pleased to announce plans to release our album in April. We’re all really hoping you guys will be as stoked as us when you hear it! Watch this space…..
Big thanks to everyone one again for your continued interest and support, not least Dorset Rock Online for giving us all a platform! You guys well and truly rule!
Here’s to making 2010 one to remember…”
“2010 is gonna be a great year for us, we can feel it already.
It’s crazy to think we only surfaced on Halloween of last year!! However, playing to 300 people with Mentallica was certainly the intro we needed. Then, in November & December playing shows supporting Cinders Fall, Panic Cell and 101% Pantera really helped us keep the momentum up.
Now, it’s only mid January and we are already booked to play with bands like Kittie, It Dies Today, Malefice and Romeo Must Die. Also, its about 90% confirmed that we will be playing a few shows with Hed(PE) and the mighty Threat Signal on their forthcoming tour! Most of us in the band are HUGE Threat Signal fans so fingers crossed we get to play with them as that would be amazing!
Other things lined up this year are a possible festival appearance, the release of both our debut EP and merchandise and hopefully some small tours across the UK.
With more material being written and better shows coming in every month, we’re hoping in 2010 we can really make an impact on the UK Metal scene and possibily even gain some label interest! Either way, its gonna be alot of fun this year!”
“2009 was a big year for us. We wrote the majority of our songs, we played our first gig, played our first headline gig and built a little following in the Bournemouth area. We had been practising a lot before ‘09, but it was last year we really picked up the pace and started getting some momentum. We played our first gig at The Cellar Bar with The C-30’s, then onto Champions a few times, back to The Cellar Bar and our final gig of ‘09 at the iBar with Self Abuse in December.
2010 will be an even bigger year. We have plans for more gigs around Dorset and further afield. We are also planning to get into the studio to record our first full length album this year, which is something that really excites us. So watch out for The Subatomics in 2010, we are excited about this year and looking forward to rocking even more than we did in ‘09.”
“In 2009 we really worked hard and had a lot of fun doing it. Merylina joined the band and in March we recorded a live album at Mr Kyps which had some great reviews. We performed a live session on Total Rock Radio and was interviewed on BBC Radio 5 Live. We played at the Yellowstock in Belgium, played two tours of North France and a theatre show in Italy. In July we were endorsed by three guitar brands; Daisy Rock, Vintage and Godin. In October we filmed our first ever music video to our song So Unkind. We also managed to get So Unkind as the theme tune for the UK ’s number 1 pro wrestling radio station Ministry of Slam.
In 2010 we intend to carry on rocking. At the start of 2009 we started off with nothing but we achieved a lot so who knows where we will be this time next year. We plan to play in Europe again, as well as an impressive list of gigs we have booked all around the UK up until December 2010 at venues such as the Liverpool and Bournemouth O2 Academy’s. We have also been booked to play part of the Legends of Rock tour and plan to record a studio album which will be released later in the year.”
