The Armadillo Club: Bournemouth Punk Night

The Armadillo Club is a recently launched Punk night held at Champions (Bournemouth). Here’s the lowdown from the organisers. Scroll down for the calendar.
The idea for the The Armadillo Club was conceived towards the end of 2009, on the back of a string of successful ‘punk’ gigs, featuring, amongst others, Vice Squad and The Vibrators. There has always been a vibrant punk and ska scene in Bournemouth, and with The Armadillo Club (named after Armadillo Records – a vinyl record store located just across the road from the venue from about 1976) the intention is to celebrate that scene, and to hopefully recreate the buzz and energy associated with the music.
We’ll be booking any bands that are punk, or embrace the idea or ethic of the genre, namely ska, psychobilly, hardcore and oi! bands will all be playing The Armadillo Club over the coming months. We’ve already seen the likes of The Members and Anti-Nowhere League play at Champions, and with Sham 69, GBH, 999, London, Goldblade, Peter & The Test Tube Babies and UK Subs all booked to play over the next three months the future looks bright for The Armadillo Club.
Booking the quality of band mentioned above also gives a fantastic opportunity for the many superb local bands to play with their musical peers. The likes of Self Abuse, Gutter Rats, The Mistakes, Flippant Malarkism, The Extinguishers, Rundown Jack, The Subatomics and The C-30s are all making the most of this opportunity, and we urge any fans of punk, or the spirit of punk, to spread the word about The Armadillo Club. As well as top notch bands we also have resident dj Menace (from one of Bournemouth’s original and best – The Intestines), as well as non-stop original punk/ska/new wave music videos on the plasma screens throughout the venue, already proving to be a real winner.
