Chickenhawk – 26.3.10 At iBar

You have to feel for Chickenhawk tonight, second band on four-band bill and unbeknownst to them, the venue down the road has two popular local bands on, with free entry. Still, although the punters are thin on the ground, this outfit comes out swinging.

Their music is brash in-your-face punk meets thrash and believe me they don’t fuck about live. Urging the reluctant audience to come closer to the stage, singer/guitarist Paul gets pissed off when they don’t. So picking up the mic stand, he marches right up to the front line and proceeds to scream song lyrics inches from their faces.

The songs come thick and fast and the bands musical ability is astounding. Furious drumming, superb bass rhythms and some of the best tech-metal guitar playing I’ve seen. Set hightlights were Bottle Rocket, NASA Vs ESA and the excellent I Hate This, Do You Like It?
I hope the next time these Leeds lads make it to Bournemouth; there will be more people to appriciate what a kick ass live band they are.
