When reviewing music, making comparisons is a natural part of the process. The troubling thing when reviewing A State of Indifference – the debut album from Bournemouth based rock band The Longest Day – is whether to draw comparisons to other unsigned local artists, or major label acts such as Silverchair, 30 Seconds to Mars and Muse.

These days there are a ton of independent bands out there vying for attention and adoration. Bournemouth’s epic rock experimentalists The Longest Day are just one of the many. However, they are one of the hardest working and dedicated. Their commitment to their music is beginning to pay off for them as well. In April of this year they won the Dorset Music Awards, they’ve booked new shows, gained new fans, and they have worked with some amazing people on their debut album which is about to land this month.
I sat down with Ross, Lee, and Allan of the band to find out more about them, their debut, and what makes them so devoted, among other things, and ready to take on the world.

It’s been a while since I last saw Western Sand play. In those five months the four-piece have come a long way. Like someone growing into their features as they age, Western Sand are a more comfortable and confident band. Where classic rock inspired local heroes Voodoo Vegas draw much inspiration from middle America, Western Sand get off the train a little further south and they have a dirtier, heavier sound for it. The band namechecks bands such as Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd and AC/DC as influences.
