Champions venue has undergone some serious changes since I was last there and all are for the best! The corner stage and the table between the pillars have gone, only to be replaced with a brand new stage at the rear of the venue. This gives more room for punters to see the bands and the bands an easier time for setting up their instruments, as the stage is right next to the dressing room. New sound and lighting system is in effect and with a few minor tweaks will kick ass! This is a major display of intent from the venue to be taken seriously as a genuine contender on the Dorset live music scene. With some major names lined up to play, I can only see this place going from strength to strength.

Well after a crazy bank holiday weekend, the volume Dorset gigs seem to have calmed down a bit. Needless to say there are still some excellent gigs coming up this week!

To cope with Dorset Rock Online’s rapid growth and our plans for the website, we’re making a few changes. Not only has a team re-organisation already started, but we’ve been thinking about site content. I thought I’d start with what I hope to be a regular feature. We hear all sorts of news snippets, and quite often they don’t warrant a full article write up. This is where our ‘News & Updates’ postings come in…

On Saturday 7th August Champions, Bournemouth, played host to The Dorset Rock Online 1st Birthday Bash. Six bands (and Burlesque artist Scarlet De Beau) performed across two stages. Read a review of the night here by Jack Churchill at The Bournemouth Echo. Robert Whetton and Tim Churchill were also on hand and this is what they saw through their lenses…

Wow, that was quite a night… and what an atmosphere! I hope everyone had a good time at our 1st Birthday Bash at Champions! I know we did. A big thank you to The Longest Day, The Neon Tigers, Rapids!, Nion Abeo, The Otherhalf and Western Sand for putting on an awesome show. I think you’ll agree with me that the entertainment was top notch. If you hadn’t already seen some of the bands that performed, I hope they lived up to the expectations we may have built up with our praise over the last year. I hope we’ll have some photos and video from the night soon!
Other than the bands that I’ve already mentioned, I would like to thank everyone involved in making the event what it was. Further thanks goes to:
