Yep, that’s right – the October John Butler Trio gig at the O2 Academy Bournemouth has been cancelled.
The O2 haven’t received any reason or press info from the promoter as to why, and more importantly, if it will be rescheduled. Dan Roberts found a reference online to it being down to ‘logistics’ and that’s about it. If you already have tickets, I’d get in touch with the seller.
Myself and Dan were especially looking forward to this one – Dan even wrote a preview article for the gig. Let’s not put the man’s hard work to waste. Here’s a bit about the band and a couple of music videos.

I’m sure I’m not the only girl who admired Debbie Harry when they were younger. I wanted to be like her, Joan Jett, Chrissie Hynde, Princess Leia, or Wonder Woman. I would have loved to experience Blondie back in the day but unfortunately never got to as a result of my young age.
Therefore I was looking forward to seeing the New York new wave pioneers especially when I had heard they weren’t going to be touring much as a result of Debbie Harry’s battle with tinnitus. Not only have they embarked on a tour but there is also a new album, Panic of Girls, on its way.

Heavyweight Metal bruisers, DevilDriver, will be tearing The O2 Academy Bournemouth a new one, in November. Renowned for their all-out, high-powered live shows, we can certainly expect a killer evening of accelerated Melodic Groove Metal, delivered with brutal intent.

I’m back in Boscombe, back at the O2 queuing again, but this time it’s not as cold as it is now spring. What has spring brought us tonight? The Welsh culture exchange program represented by Merthyr Tydfil’s The Blackout and Pontypridd’s Lostprophets. Lovely! The boyos are in town and ready to entertain us with their blend of Metal and Pop (not used in a derogatory way I assure you).

For many people that are here tonight The Wonder Stuff’s Hup album was part of the soundtrack of their youth. It was certainly mine and Miles Hunt’s witty, well written lyrics have been embedded in my brain every since it was first released in November 1989. Tonight the band have promised to play the whole Hup album in it’s entirety along with a few live favourites and a few B-side’s from the time.

This is the first Dorset Rock Online contribution from Dave ‘Chinners’ Chinery. We hope there’s more from where this came from!
Stiff Little Fingers‘ annual nationwide tour of the UK is in full swing and tonight it rolls into Bournemouth. Only last April they played at the Old Fire Station in Bournemouth with punk band Chelsea supporting. When SLF took to the stage Jake Burns took a direct hit with a pint glass full of beer in the face which really changed the whole tone of the evening, I’m sure tonight the band are hoping for a better start to their evening.
