New Model Army arrive for their first visit to Mr Kyps in Poole this Friday night (20th August 2010). The gig has been slotted as an intimate warm-up show just before the band’s appearance at The Levellers ‘Beautiful Days’ Festival at Escot Park in Devon. New Model Army celebrate their 30th Anniversary this year, which is some major achievement as they have played on many worldwide tours and produced eleven top quality studio albums during that time. Earlier this year they finished a ninety date tour of Europe and America in support of their album Today is a Good Day which critics rated as some of their best work since the infamous Thunder and Consolation.

Beachbum Baby has the blood of old school Punk Rock coursing through its veins. Andy Nazer and Co have injected just enough of that radio friendly melody that bands such as the Foo Fighters are renowned for, to make it appeal to more than just fans of The New York Dolls and similar bands of that scene and era.

The following review was submitted by Matt Upchuck.
Mention the Meat Puppets to most people and you will almost get a blank look from them, the best you can hope for is “didn’t they support Nirvana on the MTV Unplugged Session?” and yes they did; but to remember them for simply having Kurt Cobain singing along with them would do them a severe injustice. Especially for a fan of noisy and discordant punk rock like me.

On Saturday 17th April, the 2010 Dorset Music Awards reached it’s conclusion. After months of campaigning and performing from the bands, the prizes were finally issued by music industry bods and festival representatives. The prizes were in effect split in two. The overall winners get the trophy and a prize bundle worth thousands of pounds. Also up for grabs were four festival slots. These slots were issued independently, to whichever band the festival rep’ wanted at their event. Potentially there were five prizes up for grabs for the five bands competing – Mutant Vinyl, Lady Winwood’s Maggot, Sarah Griffin, Disco’s Out (Murder’s In) and The Longest Day.
